COVID-19 – Redundancies and the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

On 5 November 2020 it was announced that furlough, also known as the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (‘CJRS’), would remain open until the 31 March 2021. Despite this, there has been a wave of redundancies across many industries. BPP students and staff have developed two factsheets to assist you in understanding how the extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme could affect your employment, and also the procedure that employers must follow if they wish carry out redundancies.

The information in these factsheets will be updated as changes to the law are brought in. It is correct as of the 4 December 2020. These factsheets are intended to be for general information purposes only and not as specific advice.

If you would like a translated copy of one of these factsheets, please email translation@my.bpp.com with the title of the factsheet and the language you require.

If you are an employee and you are having problems at work, you can call the Employment Law Telephone Advice line on 0207 633 4534 to receive 30 minutes of free employment law advice.
